Natural Methods Used for Soil Remediation

January 21st, 2012 by admin

There are two methods used for soil remediation services in disposing of contaminants. The first one is known as phytoextraction, which uses plants or algae to remove soil contaminants, sediments or water and transforms them into harvestable plant biomass.

The other process, known as phytostabilization, focuses more on the stabilization and containment of the contaminants. It immobilizes the contaminants by adsorption or accumulation and provides a zone around the roots where the contaminants precipitate and stabilize. Lastly, it also reduces the exposure of livestock, wildlife, and humans to these contaminants. Both these methods have become popular due to the fact that they don’t disrupt the soil structure and productivity.
